Detail : Egypt’s Al Madina for Advanced Technology, recently organised a seminar titled “Prepress Innovation–Optimizing CTP & Printing Quality”, with the participation of three specialised international companies. According to the organisers, the event was attended by more than 200 managers, owners and representatives from a large number of Egyptian private, newspaper andgovernmental printing presses.

The seminar was thrown open by a welcome note from Eng. Ashraf Fathy, the General Manager of Al Madina, followed by a short speech by Eng.Sherif Abdel Hamid, the Prepress Sales  Manager of Al Madina. In his speech Eng.Hamid mentioned about the importance of advanced technologies in obtaining high quality products at low cost.

During the seminar, directed by Eng. Walid Soufi, the Prepress Manager of Al Madina, three lectures were presented by three international companies (all represented in Egypt by Al Madina).

The lectures included those by Jo Maessen, the GMG Sales and Business Development Manager for EMEAR, who started his presentation by discussing about the importance of colour management in the printing industry.

In his workshop, Maessen mentioned that the company has from 7500 to 8000 systems used all over the world.

Maessen also emphasised on the importance of proofs and the essentiality of their compliance with the international standards. He also explained the ways to calibrate colour printers, and apply and produce colour management ICC profiles, with the capability of translating colours in four dimensional tables, CMYK to CMYK. He also demonstrated a wide range of products, including colour servers and special proofing software for both offset and flexo printing.

Following Maessen’s workshop, Urs Bachofner, Lüscher's Sales and Marketing Director presented about the latest CTcP systems, used in both offset and flexo printing.

He also explained all the specifications of the X-Pose system which can produce conventional litho offset plates using laser diode exposing units, stating that from a total of 1100 CTcP systems world wide, 100 are from this series, in addition to another 120 orders under construction. He claimed that 65 percent of these systems are used by commercial printers, 24 percent by packaging printers, and 11 percent by prepress, colour separation and design offices.

During the third and the last presentation, Peter Simmen, X-Rite’s International Sales Manager for EMEA, said that the company had merged with Gretag Macbeth in December 2006. He also mentioned that 37 percent of the company’s total sales were in Europe and the Middle East, 42 percent in the Americas, while the ratio in Asia was 21 percent.
